Sports Tidbits

Congrats to the Miami Heat on winning the NBA championship. I will give them their props. They played hard throughout the finals and the playoffs and they deserved it. Although i dislike them, i mostly dislike Lebron, they deserve it, i hope Lebron and the Miami Heat don’t get used to it, but with there defense and the way they play as a team, i can see them only getting better. You have to give credit to the Oklahoma City Thunder for getting to the finals and beating the Mavericks, Lakers, and Spurs on the way there. That is no easy task at all. It seemed to be the Thunder were too young and weren’t prepared enough. It was their first time there, they will have many opportunities and will be back again. Now I just hope my Knicks can get better.

Speaking of the Knicks they received good news about the status of Jeremy Lin and Steve Novak. The arbitration hearing wen’t in the Knicks favor and they both got granted early bird rights, which means they will be able to keep both without using there mid-level exception. This is big news because that means they won’t have to use the mid-level to sign Lin per say, which means they can use that to go after any other free agent. Steve Nash anyone??

The Mets and Yankees are playing the second subway series this weekend. The Mets got swept at Yankee Stadium previously, but this time its at Citi Field. The Mets took the first game on Friday night winning by a score of 6-4, on good pitching by Jonathon Niese, and a big home run by Ike Davis. Frank Francisco got the save. Sunday nights’s game is R.A Dickey vs C.C Sabathia. This is sure to be a dandy. This is going to be one hell of a pitching matchup and one hell of a game. Dickey has been the best pitcher in baseball as of late. His record this year is 11-1 with a 2.00 era. Nobody can hit that nasty knuckleball. This game can be seen on ESPN on Sunday night at 8 P.M. The Mets are now on a 4 game winning streak and with the Nationals losing Friday night they are now only 2 games back of them for first place in the division, lets go Mets!

Jerry Sandusky’s trial was today and to nobody’s surprise he was found guilty on 46 of 48 counts of sexual molestation. He faces a maximum sentence of 448 years in prison, which is a weird number, why not just give him life in prison, or better yet the death penalty? He won’t last long at all. He deserves all bad that he has coming to him in my opinion.

NBA Finals preview. Oklahoma City Thunder vs Miami Heat

Image

The NBA finals are here! They start tonight at 9 p.m on ABC. The Western Conference Champions Oklahoma City Thunder will go up against the Eastern Conference Champions Miami Heat. This is probably one of the more exciting match-ups for a finals the NBA can have. The Thunder, are a young and hungry team on a mission. They play with passion, they play together. They have two main superstars in Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook, and a guy who is infamous for his beard, but should really be more recognized for his game in James Harden, the NBA sixth man of the year. They are focused and determined, and although they inexperienced and this is their first ever trip to the NBA finals, they have great team chemistry. Durant has stepped his game up to another level this post-season. It’s fun to watch such a young team excel. Durant, Westbrook, and Harden are only 22,22,and 23 years old respectively. They also have Serge Ibaka, who is a shot blocking machine, and has steadily improved his mid-range jump-shot. They have other big man with size in Kendrick Perkins and Nick Collison, and Thabo Sefolosha, who is a great defensive force. He can guard either Lebron or wade. They seem to be a deeper team than the Heat, and have far more weapons. The Thunder have defeated three former NBA champs in the Dallas Mavericks, Los Angeles Lakers, and San Antonio Spurs. All tough opponents, and the Thunder made it seem easy. The Match-up that everyone will be watching is Lebron vs Durant, and Lebron will come to play for sure.

This is Lebron’s third trip to the NBA Finals, he made the finals last year with this Heat team, but lost to the Dallas Mavericks in 6 games. The Heat are are much hated team around the league, Lebron was a like-able guy before he wen’t to the Heat, he was more of a hero, but now he is more of a villain. The matchup between Lebron and Durant will be fun to watch. They will both go at it, and it should be a treat to watch! For the heat to win this Wade has to play better, he has to step up, and be more of a robin to Lebron’s batman. Bosh also had to play better, and the role players on the Heat have to do a better job. This is where the thunder have the advantage is on the bench. Who’s going to guard Harden when he comes off the bench? Harden will have a field day against Shane Battier, or Mike Miller. If the Heat cannot stop Harden, and contain the size of the Thunder, it will be tough for them to win. Will Lebron finally get his ring? Or will he have to wait another year or even longer? It all begins tonight…so tune it to watch the drama unfold!  MY PREDICTION:THUNDER IN 6!

Are all sports fixed?

Boxing has officially died. In the wake up the terrible decision by the judges to give Timothy Bradley the victory over Manny Pacquiao, it was clear cut to even the casual boxing fan’s eye that Pacquiao had won that fight. He clearly won at least 11 out of the 12 rounds, Bradley won one round in my eyes, this fight wasn’t even close. The result of this fight is sure to lose a lot of boxing fans, maybe the more avid boxing fans will stay interested in it, but i have lost a lot of interest in boxing. I wasn’t a big boxing fan, but i enjoyed watching it, I’ve watched it back in the day and I have watched a few Mayweather and Pacquiao fights in recent years. It’s hard not to believe this fight wasn’t a set-up in some sort of way. The fight was in Las Vegas, the three judges were all from Las Vegas, and Bradley was a 4-1 underdog, meaning if someone had bet on Bradley say $100 bucks, they would have won $400 dollars. You can bet that a lot of people, whoever put money on Bradley won big in Vegas and anywhere else. A lot of people think that this was fixed to ensure a rematch between the two, and with Mayweather being in prison for a few months, holding off the inevitable fight between Mayweather and Pacquiao. I believe the fight between these two will happen, but when is the question. I don’t know how boxing will get their fans back to being interested in the sport again when you have UFC, which is much better and has more action and better fights. This fight was fixed, boxing lost my respect and many others, this brings one to think that possibly other sports may be fixed as well.

It’s all about the money, sports is a big business, a lot of money is involved. In my belief i think that the NBA is fixed. It’s easy to see just look at the referees in these playoffs. Terrible call after terrible call. I’ve watched basketball for a while, and in these playoffs i witnessed some of the worst refereeing in a while. You don’t think that the commissioner of the NBA David Stern didn’t want a Heat vs Thunder finals? This finals is more exciting and will generate far more revenue and ratings than say a Thunder vs Celtics finals, or a Spurs vs Celtics finals. Stern knows what the fans of the NBA wants to see. He knows that fans want to see super stars go at it. Lebron James vs Kevin Durant on the biggest stage of basketball. Two young hungry teams looking for a ring. Stern isn’t dumb, he knows after this shortened season, after all the labor talks that he may have lost fans or money, and he’s trying whatever possible to gain it back. Take a look at the NBA draft lottery, the New Orleans Hornets got the first pick in the draft, and who owns the Hornets?? The NBA does that’s right! So it’s so easy to see whats going on in the NBA, and in my opinion it’s a damn shame. Sure, it’s about ratings and revenue, but it takes away from the fun and the actual sport of the game. The business of sports has taken out the sport out of sport and the fun out of it. It’s hard to tell me otherwise that the NBA isn’t fixed, boxing for sure is, but the question remains is what other sports are fixed? The MLB, the NFL, are they fixed as well? Who knows it’s hard what to believe anymore.

Johan Santana throws first no hitter in Mets history!!!

Image

In the words of Johan Santana “I couldn’t even throw a no hitter in a video game.” Johan Santana has thrown the first no hitter in Mets history. It took him 134 pitches to do it, he stuck out 8 batters and walked 9 in his no hitter.  What a historical moment that was. Words cannot explain how nervous i and every met fan was during that 9th inning. I will never forget that moment, and who better of a guy to throw the no-no than Johan Santana. I had a feeling he would be the one to do it, and i had a really weird feeling about the game tonight. I called it when i was watching it in the beginning of the game, i just felt it, when you feel it in your gut it’s usually not wrong.

I was so excited and happy after he threw the no hitter that i screamed and cried tears of joy. I never thought in my lifetime i would witness a no hitter for the Mets, it has never happened in their history. This is the first no hitter in 8,019 games of Mets history. Johan Santana has always been a gamer, i have always admired that very special quality about him. Thats what separate’s him for other pitchers, and other athletes in general. His will and determination makes me look up to him. He has great heart and great character, and i really would not have wanted any other Met to do it, what a perfect guy to make history for the Mets. If i was that nervous i wonder how nervous Johan was during that 9th inning, that was stressful to watch, i do not know how he did that. I would also love to give kudos to Terry Collins for leaving Johan in. Very very tough decision to make and he made the right one. Johan coming back from surgery, and now he has made New York Met history. What a night, what a guy, what a player. Lets give it up to Johan Santana!!
